More than 200 athletes from nine Medway schools took part in the indoor rowing event at Medway Park on Thursday, 6 October, which was also attended by two GB under 23 rowers.

Schools were able to enter teams in all age groups, from Years 7 to 13, with rowers racing each other for a set period of time and being scored on the distance they travelled. The schools' four best rowers in each age group produced an overall team score.

Rochester Maths took the boys' title ahead of Chatham Grammar School for Boys and the Howard School. Last year's overall Secondary School Games champions Greenacre only entered three age groups on the day, but won two of those age groups. It wasn't quite enough to get them into the top three though, which might cost them at the end of the series.

In the girls' event, Walderslade Girls School took the trophy ahead of Rainham School for Girls and Brompton Academy.

The prizes were presented by GB under 23 rowers Morgan Hellen from Maidstone and Tim Grant from Sevenoaks, who also raced some of the teachers at the end of the day.

The Medway Secondary School Games series offers secondary schools the chance to compete in 12 inter-school events during the academic year. The series is organised by the council’s 2012 and Sports Development Team with the support of the two school sports partnerships, national governing bodies, local sports clubs and leisure facilities. Prizes are awarded at each event and points are gained towards the overall SSG title.
