Smashing outcome at secondary school badminton

Photo of the Rainham Girls School A team who won the key stage three badminton tournament at the Medway Secondary School GamesTwenty-five teams from nine schools took part in the Secondary School Games badminton tournament held at Medway Badminton Association, Gillingham.

The four-person teams competed against opposing schools in fixtures comprising two singles and three doubles matches.

The big winners on the day were Rainham Girls School. Their B team beat won the Key Stage 3 (KS3) girls competition ahead of their A team, Thomas Aveling and Brompton Academy.

The Rainham Girls School A team then triumphed over their B team, Strood Academy, Thomas Aveling and Hundred of Hoo in the KS4 girls competition.

The boys competition featured 16 teams, seven in KS3 and nine in KS4.

Photo of the Rainham Mark key stage 4 boys team who won the Secondary School Games badminton tournamentThomas Aveling emerged victorious in the KS3 competition, closely followed by the Howard School and Rainham Mark. Rainham Mark won the KS4 competition, with the Howard School again finishing second and Hundred Of Hoo taking third.

The winning schools in each category will now progress to the county round of the Center Parcs National Schools Championships to be held at Medway Park on Tuesday, 7 February 2012.

Medway Council's 2012 and Sports Development Team, who organise the Secondary School Games series, and Medway Badminton Association, who hosted the event, would like to wish all winning teams the best of luck for the next round.
