Broncos train at Medway Park
Medway Park hosted the London Broncos Rugby League
Scholarship Squads for a full day during the half term break.
This was a unique opportunity for the players to train away from
Feltham Community College at a venue that has hosted the
Modern Pentathlon World Cup and will be a host training venue in
2012 for a number of Olympic teams.
The day was started with a welcome from Bob Dimond the Medway
Park and 2012 Sports Development Manager who introduced his staff
and offered his whole support for the day.
Medway Park hosted the five sessions with the players having the
opportunity to experience a variety of activities including a
combat workout in the Medway Park Judo Club dojo under the watchful
eye of John Malkinson from the Judo Club.
Mike Evans from the Medway 2012 and Sports Development
Team, who also works for the UK Anti Doping Agency, delivered a 100
per cent ME session, which educated the players on personal
responsibilities, managing what goes into their bodies and how
anti- doping works.
The highlight of the day was an hour-long session of wheelchair
rugby league with Nick Brooks, Matt Bromley and Colin Scorer from
the Medway Dragons Wheelchair Rugby League team. This was a real
eye opener for the lads but by the end, the action was fast and
furious with huge collisions and some good skills on display.
Phil Jones, London Broncos Rugby League Head of Youth, was
delighted with the day away. He said: "Our players had a
fantastic experience at Medway Park, especially with how
welcoming the staff at the centre were throughout the schedule.
"The day flew by with excellent sessions delivered in
outstanding facilities which will give us a real edge with our
player development programmes. Today fitted with our aims to give
our players and coaches the best possible opportunities to learn
and grow and I am sure we will be speaking to Bob to bring the
Scholarship programme players and some of our other squads
back."
