Sir Joseph Williamsons Mathematical School and Fort Pitt Girls Secondary School led the way in the first swimming gala event, as part of the Secondary School Games Series 2011/12.

Within the Year 7 boys and Year 7 girls competition, six schools competed in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and team medleys collecting individual winners medals for fastest times and points for their school team.

As the schools raced through the competition the leader board changed many times, leading to an exciting school team relay finale, where all participants gave their all to secure the final team points up for grabs and spectators cheered loudly urging the swimmers on.SSG Swimming team 2012

Within the girls competition Fort Pitt took the top spot, but were closely followed by joint second place Rainham Girls School and Walderslade Girls School, who were tied on points.

The boys produced an equally strong competition, with Sir Joseph Williamsons Mathematical School finishing strongly.
