Medway Park Crusaders into basketball play-offs

Results in other games at the weekend mean Medway Park Crusaders finished the league in fourth position. They were tied on points with Westminster Warriors at 13 wins and seven losses, but finished below them because of their head to head record during the season.

The Crusaders will now play Hemel Storm on Saturday, 26 March at Medway Park with a 7pm tipoff. It is the first time in the club's history that they have hosted a Division 2 play-off at home. It is also only their second home play-off match in any division.

The home team will fancy their chances too, having beaten Hemel twice during the regular season. They are expecting to have a full squad, including the return of their American star player OJ Reed, who was missing through injury for three straight defeats towards the end of the season.

This gave me the opportunity to have a much more in depth look at the squad and get other players valuable playing time

"Finishing fourth is the best the club has ever achieved and I know the guys wanted a top two place, but they are now even more hungry to win the playoffs.

"We should have everyone back and fully fit for this Saturday which will be the first time in over a month I have been able to say that."

Crusaders and Hemel have met three times this season already, with Crusaders winning the latest two games in the regular season.

Coach Vear knows the Storm will be a difficult opponent: "Facing Hemel in the first round will be extremely tough. They have had some injuries to key players over the past few months but have still picked up wins.

"We know how well coached and organised they are and we will have to be at our best if we want to come away with a win."

Tip off on Saturday is at 7pm at Medway Park, Mill Road, Gillingham.
