Children on a residential stay at the centre in Upnor took part in a hand-painting relay to fill a 500 day-to-go banner.

The challenge took place on Tuesday, 15 March - exactly 500 days out from the start of the Olympic Games opening ceremony on 27 July 2012.

More than 50 excited pupils from East Borough Primary School in Maidstone worked in teams to complete the specially-designed banner.

The activity took place during their five-day residential visit to the centre.

The 500 day to go landmark was celebrated nationwide. London 2012 and Games sponsor Omega unveiled a countdown clock in Trafalgar Square.

Tickets for the Olympic Games (www.tickets.london2012.com) and the Modern Pentathlon European Championships taking place this summer at Medway Park (www.europentathlon2011.org) also went on sale.
