Army of volunteers needed for European Championships

Photo of Modern Pentathlon World Cup volunteersThe Modern Pentathlon European Championships are heading to Medway Park this summer, exactly one year before the London 2012 Olympic Games, and this is your chance to get involved.

The event's organising team needs an army of volunteers to help with all aspects of the event, from building and setting up the competition venues, to officiating and providing first-class service to spectators and athletes.

The team of volunteers from the 2010 Modern Pentathlon World Cup was what made the event so great. Many have signed up again for this summer's championships and will be the difference between a good event and a great event.

World Cup volunteer Phil Thomas said: "Being a volunteer at the Modern Pentathlon World Cup was the highlight of my summer last year.

"Apart from the buzz of working on a prestigious international event there was the sense of achievement that you were giving something back to the local community.

"There was also the enjoyment of making new friends with complete strangers who you were working with throughout the event.

"I know I have made friends for life just from participating in a week's worth of volunteering. I cant wait to get cracking on the European championships this summer and experience the same feelings all over again."

The European Championships are taking place at Medway Park from Thursday, 28 July to Monday, 1 August. Europe's best modern pentathletes, including world and Olympic champions, are expected to compete as athletes seek to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
