Olympic hopefuls train at Jumpers Rebound Centre
International gymnasts have been training in Medway
ahead of their final qualification event for the London 2012
Olympic Games.
In preparation for their make-or-break final qualification
opportunity at the London Prepares test event at London's O2
arena, gymnasts from Canada, the USA, Portugal and Great
Britain trained at Jumpers Rebound Centre in
Gillingham, – home of GB trampolining and the largest UK trampoline
club, Gillingham Jumpers.
If the countries qualify, the centre expects the teams to return
to Gillingham for pre-Olympic training camps along with Australia
and several European countries who have already qualified for
London 2012 this summer.
Martin Laws, Managing Director of the Centre
said: “I’m proud that we can fly the flag and attract major
countries to Kent as part of the London 2012 Games. This is a
massive endorsement of the facilities available at the Jumpers
Rebound Centre and shows clearly that Medway has plenty on offer to
the Olympic Games.
"We are at world class level and can showcase both
Jumpers Rebound Centre and Great Britain. We have worked hard to
attract these teams and our efforts are now paying off.
"It is vital to bring the countries' base
camps to the area if we are to maximise the benefits of London
2012. We are now seeing snowballing effect as other countries try
to follow the leaders, so here we come 2012!”
Jumpers Rebound Centre is one of five facilities Medway approved
by London 2012 as an official pre-Games training camp venue for teams preparing
for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Visa
International Gymnastics London Prepares competition at the O2
is the test event for the Olympic Games and has featured all
disciplines of gymnastics. Some qualification spots have
already been secured by results at various World Championship
competitions, but the last 30 places are being fought for
in London.
