Medway
Festival of Sport
The Medway Festival of Sport is an annual celebration of
sport in Medway.
From school and community events and tournaments to national
level competitions, the Festival of Sport
offers something for
everyone.
The Medway Festival of Sport was first held in summer 2010,
giving thousands of children and adults the chance to compete
and participate in a programme of exciting events centred on
Medway's centre of sporting excellence, Medway Park.
Given the significance of 2012 both for global sport and for
Medway, the Festival of Sport will be a year-long programme as
part of Medway's Year of
Celebration.
Schools events
There will be schools events in the Festivals of
Sport, involving hundreds of young competitors and
volunteers.
The Festivals support the nationwide ambition to create
opportunities for young people to compete against each other in
sporting events as a legacy of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic
Games.
Each festival will feature competitions as part of the
Mini Youth (MYG) and Disability Youth Games (DYG) Series, as
well as events organised by the school sports
partnerships.
Where relevant, winning schools will go on to represent Medway
in the Kent Festival of Sport

four-day multi-sport festival featuring some 600 competitors and

Then in July the sixth annual Medway Mile marked the start of the Olympic
Games.
The event on Friday, 27 July featured the hugely popular mass

the opening ceremony from the Olympic Stadium in Stratford.
