The Medway Mile is Medway's signature countdown event to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The mass participation fun run attracts thousands of joggers and walkers of every age, size and ability, all coming together to celebrate the annual countdown to the start of the Games on 27 July 2012.

The event was first staged in 2007 at the former Black Lion Leisure Centre. It now takes place in historic Rochester, weaving through the high street, the Vines and the Cathedral grounds before ending under the Norman keep of Rochester Castle.Medway Mile logo

The Medway Mile is free to enter and every participant receives a free
t-shirt. It is open to runners and walkers of any age or ability and also includes a raft of free activities for all ages.

Thousands of people are expected to once again take part in the children's, adult and mass family race around Rochester.

The Castle Gardens will then be transformed into an official London 2012 Community Live Site, complete with a big screen for everyone to watch the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Games and to celebrate together the arrival of the Games in London in our own carnival atmosphere.

To add to enjoyment for families, this year’s Medway Mile in the Rochester Castle Gardens is smoke free
