The Medway Mile
The Medway Mile is Medway's signature countdown event to
the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The mass participation fun run attracts thousands of joggers and
walkers of every age, size and ability, all coming together to
celebrate the annual countdown to the start of the Games on 27 July
2012.
The event was first staged in 2007 at the former Black Lion
Leisure Centre. It now takes place in historic Rochester, weaving
through the high street, the Vines and the Cathedral grounds before
ending under the Norman keep of Rochester Castle.
The Medway Mile is free to enter and every participant receives
a free
t-shirt. It is open to runners and walkers of any age or ability
and also includes a raft of free activities for all ages.
Medway Mile 2012 - Celebrating the start of the London
2012 Games
This year's
spectacular event will take place during the evening
of Friday, 27 July in Rochester
Castle Gardens.
Thousands of people are expected to once again take part in
the children's, adult and mass family race around
Rochester.
The Castle Gardens will then be transformed into an official
London 2012 Community Live
Site, complete with a big screen for everyone to watch the
Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Games and to celebrate
together the arrival of the Games in London in our
own carnival atmosphere.
To add to enjoyment for families, this year’s Medway Mile in the

Many runners choose to use the Medway
Mile as a fundraising activity. If you want to, and don't
have a charity in mind, why not run in support of Transplant Sport
UK and the
Westfield Health 2012 British Transplant Games, being held in
Medway in August.
