Olympic Torch Relay Route for Medway Revealed

On Friday, 20 July Medway will proudly host the Olympic flame and play its part in an Olympic Torch Relay route around the UK that covers approximately 8,000 miles

Medway residents will be able to watch the Relay as it makes its way through Rainham, Gillingham, Chatham, Rochester and Strood.

The Torch Relay begins on Saturday, 19 May at Lands End, Cornwall, and lasts 70 days before the flame arrives at the Olympic Stadium, London in time to light the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony on Friday, 27 July to signify the start of the Olympic Games.

The flame will be carried by Olympic Torchbearers who have been nominated by people they know for their life stories.  Some of Medway's inspirational people will have their moment to shine as they carry the Olympic Torch on its journey to the London 2012 games.  Find out who is carrying the torch in Medway (pdf 103KB).

At 7.50am on Friday, 20 July the flame will enter Medway having spent the previous evening in Maidstone. It will make its way through our communities, leaving at 9.25am, before heading west to Surrey where it will spend that evening.
