Club and Coach Development

Medway is committed to developing and supporting the strong network of clubs and coaches that underpin community and elite sport.

The council's 2012 and Sports Development Team and its partners run and support a series of initiatives to encourage club and coach development and help Medway become a centre of sporting excellence as a legacy from the 2012 Games.

Clubmark is a national scheme that accredits and recognises clubs that are committed to providing a safe, effective and child-friendly environment for children and young people.

Clubs that achieve Clubmark gain a place on Medway's Community Sports Network and enjoy a range of benefits set out in Medway's Clubmark Charter (pdf 114KB).

Coach Development

coache trampolineMedway sports coaches have a vital role to play in coaching the local community. Coaching is central to the development of sport at every level and investment in coaches is crucial if clubs are going to develop.

Medway’s pioneering new Coaching Academy is a structured programme to identify and develop coaches.

It creates an effective coaching pathway from unqualified beginners through to high performance coaches, beginning with a six-module entry qualification for non-qualified coaches. It also provides information and access to coaching qualifications.
